The Laurus Trust is the admissions authority for Laurus Ryecroft. We are running two consultation processes from 8 November to 20 December 2021 – one regarding the admissions policy for entry into Year 7 in September 2023 and one regarding our Sixth Form, due to open in September 2023.
Sections 1.45-1.48 of the School Admissions Code (2021) require all admissions authorities to formally consult on any proposed changes to their admission arrangements and, as in the case of our Sixth Form, when a first set of admission arrangements are proposed.
If you wish to give your views you must submit your response during this period by completing the response forms provided below.
Who is involved in the consultations?
- parents/carers of children between ages of two and 18
- other persons in the area who in the opinion of the admission authority have an interest in the proposed admissions
- all other admission authorities in the local area
- the Local Authority
Our vision for Laurus Ryecroft from Y7 to Y13
For every child, regardless of background or circumstance, to be inspired, thrive in all environments, recognise what it takes to succeed, set aspirational goals and work hard to achieve them. For every student, regardless of background or circumstance, to achieve the A Level grades which will open the door to the future of their choice, including access to the most competitive and prestigious universities and professions.
Rationale for the consultations
Y7 Admissions: Laurus Ryecroft opened in September 2018 and moved into its brand new purpose built building in May 2020. The school had an original Published Admissions Number (PAN) of 210 and the overall capacity of the school in years 7-11 is 1,050 students. At the request of the Local Authority, the Laurus Trust increased the PAN to 220 for two years (2021 and 2022) to assist with the number of available secondary school places in Tameside. In order to ensure all Laurus Ryecroft students receive the highest quality of education in our wonderful school building, the Trustees propose that the PAN reverts to 210 in September 2023 in accordance with the school’s Funding Agreement.

Sixth form: Laurus Ryecroft Sixth Form is opening in September 2023 to its first cohort of Year 12 students. The admission arrangements prioritise students who have attended Laurus Ryecroft but we welcome applications from students attending other schools who meet the entry requirements.
