This term, a group of Year 8 girls at Laurus Ryecroft ventured on an exciting journey into the world of Robotics and Coding with our OhBot Elective.

Over the course of our elective, students built and programmed ‘OhBots’, bringing them to life all while developing skills in programming and problem-solving.

Each student was able to gain hands-on experience in both hardware and software, building their confidence in STEM.

The elective was an amazing opportunity for these young minds to explore their passions while learning all about the ins and outs of Robotics.

The motors allow for a programmable robot head, and each motor can be set to a precise position, and they can speak by converting words into sound.

OhBots ‘act’ using motors and sound; they can be programmed to ‘think’, ‘look around’, ‘blink’ and ‘talk’ using either block based programming (scratch) or Python textual language.

During our elective, students had the chance to collaborate and work in a fun environment all whilst working on mini projects, one of which we would like to share.

Below is a video of two of our ‘new students’ sharing a joke!

Well done to our talented students on their fantastic creations!

Merry Christmas from Computing!
