We held our very own Laurus Ryecroft Music Week to coincide with World Music Day on 22 June 2021.
It was a fantastic week full of different events and performances from students and visitors to school.
The Year 8s and 9s took part in a DJ workshop before showcasing everything they had learnt in a school performance, while other students demonstrated their own musical talents in assemblies throughout the week.
Live lunchtime concerts from St John’s Brass Band of Mossley and Tameside Music Service’s jazz band took place outside school and were thoroughly enjoyed by all year groups.
Students were also extremely excited when the boy band Here At Last dropped in for a virtual visit. The group, who are the UK’s biggest boy band on TikTok, performed for students and spoke to them about their experiences of cyber-bullying, sharing positive messages surrounding mental health and the role music can play in helping emotional well-being. Students were then able to put their own questions to the band in a Q & A session.
The week was a wonderful celebration of music in all its forms and we’re looking forward to it becoming a regular fixture in the school calendar.
