Cycling
We encourage Laurus Ryecroft students and sixth formers to walk or cycle to and from school.

Everyone should ensure their bike is roadworthy, and that they are wearing suitable safety accessories and a helmet. Students should always follow The Highway Code.

Changes to Bee Network – tap & go
From 23 March 2025, tap and go contactless payments have been introduced across Bee Network buses and trams for full fare paying adults only.
Child tickets are not available using tap and go. Children can continue to use their current method of payment for travelling to school or leisure (e.g. cash, contactless).
At the same time, TfGM are making it even easier to pay for child tickets on the Bee Network app.
Single child hopper tickets will be available on the app, alongside a range of other child tickets. It’s the safe, cash-free way to pay for travel.
Bee Network’s top tips for paying for child fares:
- Download the Bee Network app to pay for a range of child tickets.
- When paying with contactless, always ask the bus driver for a child ticket before tapping your card (to avoid getting charged adult fare).
- Keep your TfGM travel pass (igo card, Our Pass) separate from bank cards when you tap the card reader, to avoid your bank card being charged an adult fare.

Travel Passes & Financial Support
igo card
Cost: £10
- Children aged 11-16 must have an igo card to travel using a child ticket on buses and trams in Greater Manchester.
- An igo card can also be used as proof of age for travelling by tram with a child ticket. You will need proof of age ID from age 11 on Metrolink.
Our Pass
Cost: £10 per year
- Free bus travel across Greater Manchester for 16-18 year-olds, any day of the week, for free
- Half-price, off-peak 1 day and weekend travelcards on Metrolink
Scholar’s Permit
Scholar’s permit | Transport for Greater Manchester
The Scholar’s Permit allows 16-19 year olds to purchase child fares when travelling to school or sixth form.
Cost: £5 per year
- a child single bus ticket for journeys to and from school or college
- a child single tram ticket or 1-day travel card for journeys to and from school or college
- a child off-peak single train ticket or Day Return (Anytime or Off-Peak) for journeys to and from school or college
You can only use the permit in term-time, and only from Monday to Friday up to 9pm. You cannot use it at weekends or bank holidays, or for any other journeys except those which are to/from a school or college.
16-19 Bursary Fund
The 16-19 Bursary Fund is a scheme to help students facing financial hardship to continue in full time education after Year 11. For more information, please read our Financial Support page or get in touch with us at [email protected] to discuss further.
Car Drivers
Please remember to drive onto the site to drop off or collect students in order to prevent congestion on neighbouring roads. Additional on-site parking space is available both before and after school for parents/carers needing to drop off and pick up students.
We would like to remind parents/carers to be courteous and considerate on neighbouring streets and ensure they do not block driveways or park on local roads in the morning or the evening.
